ABERCROMBIE & FITCH HAVE A 'SITUATION'

Abercrombie & Fitch have a Situation on their hands.

Rating:

The US clothing brand has offered to pay Jersey Shore stars, in particular Michael 'The Situation' Sorrentino not to wear their clothes.

Releasing a statement, the company explained: "We are deeply concerned that Mr Sorrentino's association with our brand could cause significant damage to our image.

"We understand that the show is for entertainment purposes, but believe this association is contrary to the aspirational nature of our brand, and may be distressing to many of our fans."

While A&F have apparently offered a "substantial payment" deal to Sorrentino and other Jersey Shore co-stars, it's unlikely to end happily for the clothing giant.

In response, the Jersey Shore star took to Twitter (as all good celebrities do) to address A&F's offer.

"Looks like Abercrombie got themselves into a Situation" he tweeted.

Sorrentino then also tweeted a link to a CNNMoney article, which reported that A&F's stocks closed nearly eight per cent lower the day after the incident.

The "Win-Win Situation" (as titled by A&F themselves) is a somewhat hypocritical move by the teen brand, who still sell their "The Fituation" t-shirts on their website, and previously sold t-shirts with the Jersey Shore slogan "GTL" (referring to their daily activities of going to the gym, tanning and laundry on Jersey Shore).

While it appears that A&F were using it to leverage publicity for the release of their quarterly earnings statement, MTV - the producers of Jersey Shore - also had something to say about the Situation.

"It's a clever PR stunt and we'd love to work with them on other ways they can leverage Jersey Shore to reach the largest youth audience on television," a spokesperson for the network said.

Well played MTV.
