Since Johnny-boy picked up the nasty cigarette habit again (he stopped for two and a half years), and the oh-so-passe commercial airlines in most countries don't allow for smoking on airlines, he's taken to flying privately to indulge his smoking habit.
Speaking in an interview with The Guardian, Johnny said: "On a private plane you can smoke. It makes it an incredibly expensive habit of course, because you can only smoke on a private plane."

The added bonus of flying privately means that Johnny also escapes being a 'novelty boy'.
"The commercial flight thing, it just gets a little weird when you're standing in line and suddenly you're not just a guy standing in line any more, you become sort of novelty boy," Johnny told The Guardian.
Mr. Depp resumed smoking while filming 'The Rum Diary' in 2009, a semi-autobiographical story based on Hunter S. Thompson's book of the same name.

We must all take note, smoking is not illegal and tobacco is not a prohibited substance. Live and let live. There are much more important things than banning smoking. Think about that do-gooders. Our planet is suffering and that is not due to smoking.
