Wowsers! No one saw this coming -- Avril Lavigne and Chad Kroeger of Nickelback announced their engagement on August 21 after six months of dating. While everyone loves to hate Nickelback (really, who writes a song with lyrics like "I like your pants around your feet"?!?), they must be buying their albums and attending their concerts because Kroeger proposed with a whopping 14-carat ring, rumoured to be worth nearly $900,000. Yikes! The pair met while working on a song together earlier in the year.
