Charlize Theron announced on Wednesday that she has adopted a son. The Oscar winner "is the proud mum of a healthy baby boy named Jackson," her rep said in a statement. Theron, 36, joins the ranks of a slew of actresses who have adopted a child as a single mother, including Sandra Bullock, Connie Britton, and Kristin Davis.Little Jackson — who was born in America and is of African-American descent — is the first child for the South African-born Theron, who is currently single following a nine-year relationship with actor Stuart Townsend, which ended in 2010. Although she has said marriage was not necessarily on her to-do list, being a mother has been. "I want a baby," she revealed last August. "If it would happen tomorrow I would be very happy." Hinting at her desire to adopt, Theron added, "There are so many unwanted children on this earth and it's our job to care for them. And if we don't, we're doing the world a disservice."An insider told Us Weekly that the "Young Adult" actress has "always wanted to be a mom," and, in fact, was photographed snuggling a friend's baby on the set of "Snow White and the Huntsman." "She is glad to be able to do it on her own now," adds the source.Congratulations Charlize!Related Video: Watch Charlize in the 'Snow White and the Huntsman' trailer

Oh well I guess she has become another rubbish celebrity. Angelina Jolie is still the role model when it comes to adopting kids. She recognises the world has poor kids everywhere. I'm over America's propanda about poverty and trying to make us think it is all about saving the blacks. I still think they inflicted the problems on themselves. In America the blacks commit the most crimes and they all seem to think that they can be sport stars, porn stars, celebrities. America's excuse for that is democracy but quite frankly they have failed with egalitarianism.

Before many of the prejudicial comments i've noticed here, does anyone know if she had had trouble having a child by natural means, or if the adopted child was abandoned, abused, neglected or in danger of these misfortunes? Furthermore, the process that she may have had to endure until the child was legally hers? Or is justifiably traditional to assume negative motives and qualities to someone who you simply don't like as they seem so different from you or to appease your envious ego???

I bet the "kid" is BLACK!!!!!! That seems to be the trend for these "MOMS".. Then they have someone else , CLEAN-UP after they mess themselves, take them when they start crying....You know what regular MOMS do for their kids, for the next 27yrs...Till they LEAVE home

It's amazing how easy it is for celebrities to adopt, and how hard for the rest of us. Still, good on her.
